The Finkles' Theater Show
Like Shakespier said, "The show must go on!"
From Ryan Lear and Rachel Petrie
Show Description: "Hi there, friend! Come see our first ever theater show! We may be new to this, but we have seen a lot of theater, so we're pretty sure we know what we're doing! We were so excited when we found out that we got accepted into the Cleveland Fringe Festival! We can’t wait to meet all of you and show you what we’ve been working on. There’s going to be singing, juggling, tumbling, guest stars, duels, and a gigantic musical number. It’s going to be the greatest thing since sliced potato cakes. So bring your friends, your families, your neighbors, and your neighbors’ neighbors (that’s you silly!), and tell them that the Finkles are in town!” - Sincerely, Carl and Wanda (and Tinkles Sprinkles) Finkles.
Most Fringy Thing: It's the story of two theater lovers with absolutely no theater training trying earnestly to put on their very first theater show. What could possibly go wrong?
Artist/Company Bio: Ryan Lear and Rachel Petrie met in 2006 at the University of Minnesota and have been doing theater together ever since. The Finkles’ Theater Show is their first original work and was first presented at the 2009 Minnesota Fringe Festival to enthusiastic reviews. One of them mentioned “barfing a lung from laughing so hard.” That is taken as a compliment and not an indication of the show’s health hazards.

What we have with the Finkles' is highly professional actors portraying amateur
actors doing professional theater in the most enthusiastic way possible. And that is
not the only mirror reflecting a mirror that we get. The Finkles' exuberance
balances their constant series of amateur miscalculations (that misread cue,
that big dance number that goes on too long for the stamina of the actors,
the failure of the cast to appear, the substitution of this show for the original
production which would have included monster trucks, costume changes made
just to change the set, etc.) that is the entire show. Nothing can stop the Finkles'
from entertaining us, just as nothing can stop us from enjoying their show.

Meet the Finkles: Carl and Wanda, plus Tinkles Sprinkles, the cutest kitty you’ll ever see outside of a kindergarten production of Cats. They’re theater lovers, just like you. And tonight, for the first (and probably last) time, the Finkles are going to put on a whole darn show, right here at Know Theater, all by themselves. You don’t want to miss it.

In seven years of fringe festing I cannot remember a more enjoyable and polished gem than "The Finkles' Theater Show."
Hysterical amateur theater geeks Carl and Wanda Finkles (fully inhabited by Minnesotans Ryan Lear and Rachel Petrie) have won a contest to put on their very own (and very first) theater performance.

For Christmas 2008, Minnesota-based actors Ryan Lear and Rachel Petrie sent loved ones an oddly festive portrait in glitter-bomb envelopes. “We set up a camera in our living room and started pulling stuff out of this costume trunk,” says Lear, who found a pair of oversized glasses. “As soon as I put them on, I felt this horribly dorky character coming into being.”
Thus were born Carl and Wanda Finkle, people who love theater in its most excruciating forms. Now they’re doing it themselves — badly but happily. Says Lear, “It’s an epic show that doesn’t quite make it there.”
