Sophie's Dream
A playful, romantic romp through the dazzling landscape of the imagination.
From Tangled Leaves Theatre Collective
Show Description: Tangled Leaves Theatre Collective invites you on a playfully wild journey through the wilderness of the imagination, where trees dance, the sun is blue, and the sky is yellow.
Imaginative, ethereal and insightful, Sophie’s Dream is about the profound connection between dreaming, waking up, and bringing forth
the soul’s deepest desires. Sophie is a creative soul, striving to build a bridge between her rich inner reality and the exterior world,
yearning to express her passions.
Sophie’s Dream is a love story unfolding. Sophie encounters Gray, a man whose presence is at once disconcerting, comforting, and
exhilarating.
The cast of six characters includes three Tree Muses and The Woman at the Piano – all playful visitors who remind Sophie who she was, who she is and who she is meant to become. This play-with-a-live-soundtrack is chock-full of truth-telling dialogue and lyrics, haunting melody and harmony, shimmering dream-scapes and transformational discovery.
Most Fringy Thing: The Tangled Leaves Theatre Collective is committed to fostering creative freedom, so that imagination can flourish and female artists can explore new creative forms. Sophie’s Dream, their whimsical indie film on stage, was dreamed into existence by first time playwright, Serenity Fisher in collaboration with first time director Caitlin Kane.

Some shows are almost critic-proof, not because they're good but because the creators are so nice and so talented that it would seem evil to say anything negative about them. Sophie’s Dream, the brain-child of Serenity Fisher, who plays and sings and wrote the script, falls into this category.

Serenity Fisher’s enchanting
Serenity Fisher’s enchanting play, Sophie’s Dream, gives a moving account of overcoming personal challenges. The haunting underlying score sets a mood for the play that gently shifts the emotional balance from sadness to joy. The cast and crew do a brilliant job of making a small theater into an intimate space with a believable diegetic world. This is an uplifting play for people of all generations.
Enquirer Review
According to the three muses clad in gauzy pastel who guide us through the show, Sophie (Jordan Schramka) is depressed and aimless. But no matter how uncertain Sophie is about her future - who isn't, these days? - the show that is wrapped around her is hopelessly optimistic.

Sophie's Dream's Opening Night
Reminiscent of Midsummer Night's Dream, Sophie's Dream is a delightful romp through composer/playwright Serenity Fisher's dream-devined artistic tug-of-war (a pantomime tug-of-war even takes place between Sophie and her muses). Fisher plays keyboard and guitar moving the story forward with her thoughful lyrics, surprising harmonies and hum-on-the-way home melodies. A CD "soundtrack" will be released in July! Loved the cast - obviously CCM Drama's excellent training shines in talented students Ellie Jameson, Taylor Cloyes and Jordan Schramka. Aretta Baumgartner anchors the dream world setting with her strong talent and presence. Romantic lead Nicholas Petricca's - lead singer of the indie band Walk the Moon - strong suit is his singing and playing, but his gentle interplay with Schramka's Sophie is endearing. First time director Caitlin Kane had many, many ideas plus musical interplay to pull together, and I think she did a splendid job of keeping the audience engaged, often-delighted and ultimately satisfied with the "indie" play's final resolution. I can't wait to find out what Serenity Fisher and Tangled Leaves Theatre Collective DREAM up next!
