Undertow
The Moon & the Stars
Live instrumental and rock soundtrack performance, set to an original film.
SHOW DESCRIPTION
Taking initial cues from Pink Floyd’s “The Wall”, music videos, and silent films of the early ‘1920s, Undertow fuses live musical performance with an original short film to tell the story of three lives forever intertwined inexplicably and tragically. Undertow’s “soundtrack” explores love’s innocence and loss through song and images. An experiment in its initial execution, with the film conceived after the soundtrack’s completion, as well as in its nightly production with several musicians performing live, the two mediums of music and film are forced to work together in a different way, telling a story without linear dialogue, largely through a 12 song cycle of instrumental and lyrical compositions. ARTIST/COMPANY BIOGRAPHY
The Moon & the Stars pairs Cincinnati based songwriters and musicians, Sean Rhiney and Mark Brasington, with independent filmmaker Marcelina Robledo. Rhiney fronted rock band clabbergirl for over ten years, earning Artist and Album of the Year nods along the way for the band's edgy rock pop soul sound - Brasington is a successful solo artist, producing the critically applauded "White Is Gray" double disc in 2004, as well as former songwriter for pop rock band, Odd Man Out. While the two performed together in clabbergirl, Undertow is their first collaborative composition. Robledo was an Associate and Line Producer for the independent film JOY, and provided Viral Marketing Consulting for the Emmy-award winning documentary A LION IN THE HOUSE. She has worked with Cincinnati Playhouse in the Park and the Cincinnati Symphony Orchestra and currently lives in Over the Rhine.
