SHOW DESCRIPTION

Heartbreaking, sassy and enchanting, The Edge is a story about a mother (Amy Warner) and her estranged daughter (Karen Wissel). It takes place on a cliff over the Mediterranean. The daughter is a nymph-like creature whose reckless behavior creates fear and frustration in her English mother. Mother and daughter use poetry and confession, dance and dreams in their struggle to find empathy. Who has the edge? And can the unthinkable ever become a glorious possibility? The Edge is directed by Michael Haney, Associate Artistic Director at the Playhouse in the Park and Choreographed by Judith Mikita, adjunct faculty member at CCM. The Edge will dazzle you.

ARTIST/COMPANY BIOGRAPHY

The Edge, by David Pownall, was produced at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival in 1986. Actress Amy Warner (known to Cincy audiences for her work in The Goat, Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf?, and A Christmas Carol) and her husband Michael Haney (Associate Artistic Director at the Playhouse in the Park since 2002) were in Edinburgh with a production of their own. On a day off, they saw The Edge and were captivated. Twenty years later, thanks to the Internet, they tracked the play down. It had never been produced in the States. They decided to do it. They enlisted Judith Mikita as choreographer. She is a teacher at CCM and choreographer whose works have been performed across the country as well as at the Aronoff and the Cincinnati Art Museum. The beautiful Karen Wissel agreed to play the dancing daughter. She has performed in China and Brazil as well as locally and is particularly known for her work with Fanchon Shur.

'AND THE FRINGIEST PART IS ...'

A love story between a mother and her estranged daughter, The Edge is a sexy mixture of poetry and dance, comedy and drama with an ending that will dazzle you.
