Confirmed venues for this year’s festival include Media Bridges, Art Academy of Cincinnati, Know Theatre, Jackson St. Underground, Below Zero Lounge, Coffee Emporium, New Stage Collective, Mixx Ultra Lounge and more to be announced.
This year’s Fringe application process boasted more out of town entries than ever before, making up more than half (52 percent) of all submissions. “It’s exciting to know that the Cincy Fringe has really started to reach all corners of the US,” says Managing Director Eric Vosmeier. “We’re so pleased to have such a wide array of artists and acts, and their geographic diversity will, without a doubt, add a different dimension to the festival this year.”
This year is also a record breaker for new participants in the Cincinnati Fringe Festival. Only 14 groups are returning participants, making 69 percent of applicants newcomers to the festival. “It’s going to be a very ambitious festival,” says Vosmeier. “It’s so nice to see how the Cincy Fringe has grown incredibly over the past six years."
What Fringe festival would be complete without the visual and film Fringe? Matt Steffen returns for a second year as the Chair of the Visual Fringe Selection Committee. He is a graduate from NKU, and is now a freelance photographer and graphic designer living in Newport, KY. Applications are now being accepted for the Visual and Film Fringe categories. The visual fringe will once again be accompanied by the painting of a mural on the north side of Know Theatre’s building. The deadline is March 27th for all visual and film fringe applications. Applications can be found here.
Chris Strobel, a professor in NKU's Department of Informatics, returns for his second year as Chair of the Selection Committee for the Film Fringe. He has worked on or with numerous local film festivals including Underneath Cincinnati, The 48 Hour Film Project, and serves on the board of the Southern Ohio Filmmakers Association.
