A world premiere horrific comedy from Four Humors Theater.

Show Description: Two brothers drive their herd deep into the mountain to graze. Isolated from the outside world, they build a scarecrow for their amusement, Harold. They show Harold amazing kindness, they show Harold amazing cruelty... Until Harold starts making decisions for himself.  A new horrific comedy from the creators of Mortem Capiendum and April Fools.

Artist/Company Bio: Four Humors believes the epic can be created from the ordinary; that the beauty of theater lies not in expensive sets and costumes, but in the connection between performers and audience. They strive to make the beautiful foolish and the foolish beautiful.

TheConveyor Review: Harold

Terror is Funny. Sitting by a campfire with a flashlight to your face telling a story while your friend hides in the bushes with a hook in his pants waiting for the right moment to jump out and scare the cute girls is funny for everyone. It just isn't funny until after you calm down and release there isn't a man about to stab you to death. Four Humor Theater's Harold brings the Funny to Terror and hits the Scarecrow out of the park.

Critic's Pick

“There’s a lot of different ways to tell his story. Here’s how I tell it.” I felt like a kid again, sitting around a campfire with someone spinning scary stories, one on top of the other.

That’s what Harold is all about, the third iteration of excellent Fringe shows from Four Humors Theater. (Previous productions from this Twin Cities company were Mortem Capiendum in 2008 andApril Fools a year ago. Director Jason Ballweber also came to Cincinnati during the 2009 holiday season to stage Sideways Stories from Wayside School for Cincy Fringe organizer Know Theatre, a work that Four Humors created.)

I have to admit- I am a Four Humors Fan. Three years at the Cinci Fringe
and three great shows. I believe Four Humors refers to the old idea of
four temperaments (funny, sad, melancholy, and angry?) or maybe not.
But their shows are not confined to funny. Harold is a ghost story which is
tough to carry out in the age of special effects horror movies. But they do
it with no greater effects than a slow build and light switches. No blood but
lots of potential for goose bumps. I rate it FRINGIER because I just don't
see anyone else doing this. Thanks, gentlemen, and come again next year.

Four Humors has presented crowd-pleasing hits in two previous Cincy Fringes: Mortem Capiendum in 2008 and April Fools in 2009. This year they’re inspired by a familiar ghost story about a scarecrow that comes to life and menaces two farmers.

According to Kristin Campbell, Four Humors’ managing director, “Harold explores the combination and similarities of horror and comedy without becoming a satire of the horror genre.” This company believes that the beauty of theater comes from the connection between performers and audience. They strive to make the beautiful foolish and the foolish beautiful.
